The Federal University of Minas Gerais, the largest university in Brazil (UFMG) already has its address in the City of Waters. It has installed in the premises of UEMG its facilities for Long Distance Education, which has been operating for more than three years. And now, invited by UNESCO-HIDROEX, The UFMG is analyzing the possibility of transferring to the UNESCO CITY OF WATERS a set of actions orientated around environmental education, with a special focus on water resource management. As well as taking large part of its established competence and its experience in this area, the UFMG has been invited to take to Frutal a structure focused on basic sanitation, water and mineralogy. A team of professionals is working hard on the proposal, perfecting the strategy to announce its adhesion to the project from the Minas Gerais Government to consolidate a great complex of education for waters in the Brazilian Cerrado (Savannah).
Presently the UFMG offers 80 undergraduate courses, 57 graduate courses and 66 masters’ courses as well as 83 specialization courses. Occupying an immense structure – its main campus is in Belo Horizonte, the capital of the Minas Gerais State – In 2010 the UFMG opened 6,600 places for university entrance exams. Moreover, the UFMG already has partnerships with 156 international institutions. All these credentials make its presence even more important in this joint effort for the waters in Latin America and Africa.
